The Washington Death with Dignity Act, Initiative 1000, codified as Chapter 70.245 RCW, passed on November 4, 2008 and went into effect on March 5, 2009. This act allows terminally ill adults seeking to end their life to receive medical support to end their lives. In 2023, SB 5179 expanded access to Medical Aid in Dying by allowing more medical providers to prescribe medication, allowing patients to receive medication by mail and decreasing the wait time to receive medication once requested. Information about the current law can be found on the End of Life Washington website here and a checklist with instructions can be found here.
